Made with a red Burgundy or Bordeaux, or even a red wine from Alsace, this famous mulled wine is part of local Christmas tradition. More typical of Alsace, though less widespread, is "Kandelzucker," Alsatian white wine combined with honey.

Ingredients
- Four cups red wine
- 8 ounces sugar cubes
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 star anise
- 2 cloves
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Zest of half a lemon
- Zest of half an orange
- Lemon or orange slices, for garnish
Directions
Place all the ingredients into a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer 3-5 minutes. Serve hot in glasses, decorated with lemon or orange slices.
